empowering players of all ages on and off the field.
49ers PREP presented by U.S. Bank empowers Bay Area youth to lead healthy lifestyles by engaging in physical activity and nurturing the growth of student athletes beyond the playing field. To date, the program has impacted over 130,000 Bay Area youth. Since making the transition to virtual programming in 2020, PREP’s programming has garnered 1.5 million digital impressions to date.
PIVOTING DURING THE PANDEMIC
We like our physical activity like we like our football - LIVE and in person! Unfortunately, 2020 had other plans. So we took our X’s and O’s and shifted them to a virtual playing field. Here’s an overview of the programming and content we developed to continue to serve Bay Area youth.
MENTORSHIP ACADEMY
In 2020 49ers PREP hosted the program’s first Virtual Mentorship Academy where 10 high schools and 57 high school football captains from across Northern California came together to learn about leadership and accountability from the founder and CEO of Peak Performance Consulting Group, Dr. Herb Martin. The student athletes were joined by 49ers rookies Javon Kinlaw, Charlie Woerner, Jared Mayden, Coltin Mckivitz, Darrion Daniels, JaMycal Hasty and Josh Hokit.
T.H.I.N.K. GOLD
49ers PREP hosted a virtual T.H.I.N.K. Gold! Conference presented by Fuel Up to Play 60 and Dairy Management Inc. Together the organizations hosted over 25 female high school athletes from the Bay Area. Students had the opportunity to virtually meet and learn from the 49ers staff and Women of the Front Office. The sessions included a variety of social and physical exercises, and teaching young women to live a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle while encouraging academics.
49ers PREP VIRTUAL FITNESS
As the world shifted digital in 2020, 49ers PREP quickly developed a novel Virtual Fitness Program to help young people stay active and fit during shelter in place. To date, 250 principals, teachers and parents have signed up across 38 school districts and five YMCA sites in Silicon Valley. 51% of participants identify as a Title 1 designated sites in historically underserved communities. We estimate our content has impacted over 69,085 youth in the Bay Area as of March 2021.
TOCHITO
In collaboration with NFL Mexico, 49ers PREP worked to bring our Tochito flag football program to the Spanish speaking communities of the U.S., Mexico and beyond. This multi-week video series allowed for the 49ers PREP flag football presented by Mountain Mike’s Pizza training and education to reach a much larger audience - touting over 17,562 page views between September 2020 and March of 2021.
49ers Prep Flag Football Certification Courses
Presented by Mountain Mike’s
In response to the cancellation of youth sports due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 49ers PREP, presented by U.S. Bank, created online certification courses to help leagues stay up to date on the guidelines to keep kids safe as/when they return to in-person play. To date, over 300 volunteer coaches, referees and league commissioners have participated in the program.
49ers prep high school newsletter
In an effort to continue to support the high school football community during the pandemic, 49ers PREP created the brand new High School Newsletter. This monthly, digital magazine helps exchange information about the ever changing landscape of the pandemic as well as bring new content and opportunities to the coaching community.
49ers Prep Live Virtual Events
49ers PREP teamed up with the Youth Activation Committee and Special Olympics of Northern California & Nevada for a LIVE online workout to help level the playing field for over 225 participants of all abilities and for a fun opportunity to learn the importance of staying active.
EMPOWERMENT legacy program partners
fresh lifelines
for youth
The 49ers Foundation works with Fresh Lifelines for Youth (FLY) to interrupt the pipeline to prison and support youth on their path to healthy, free, and productive lives. FLY connects young people with positive mentors and role models, promotes their understanding of the law and their rights, and supports them to become leaders among their peers and in their communities. FLY also helps our juvenile justice systems become more just, humane, and equitable.
tipping
point
For ten years running, the 49ers Foundation has supported Tipping Point and its mission to break the cycle of poverty for the 1 in 3 people in the Bay Area who can’t meet their basic needs. Tipping Point has raised more than $150 million since 2005 to educate, employ, house, and support those most vulnerable. Last year alone, they helped pull 230,000 people out of the path of poverty.
PRE-COVID PROGRAMS
(and the type of work we hope to do again, in person, real soon.)

“The principle is competing against yourself. It's about self-improvement, about being better than you were the day before.”
